Deliberating with Computers

This is will be slightly off-topic for the usual blog. The plan is to continue on with gaming stories as they occur and thoughts on gaming experiences. I really want to talk about just my life as it revolves around something other than that for the moment.

I woke up this morning very early after going to bed after an evening of fun with coworkers and friends. I had gotten a few hours of sleep after a 21st birthday celebration at one of Milwaukee's fine establishments and was now dehydrated after a few drinks myself and an extremely warm room. I was woken from my sleep by my dad with the request of powering down my computers.

My dad had gotten a "new" router from work to replace the 4 port one we got shortly after having more than one computer in the house. It's wireless G router with 4 ports with extenders already attached. The guys from IT had even installed a firewall and a password. They even included instructions as to how to get on to the network.

In my still tired state, I stumbled out of bed wearing almost nothing and proceeded to do as my dad asked. When I asked why he wanted me to do so, he said that he was setting up the new router. My dad can sometimes have a very sour disposition towards technology. I would call him a fair weather fan. So, without thinking, I jumped in and helped him out. I unplugged all the of the lines to the old router, unplugged the power cords to a power supply from the old computer, unplugged the old computer entirely, set up the new computer as the main spot for the new router. I thought I might have to go a step further and set up the router, but found out that it was already done.

This is where the fun starts for my dad. He tries to log onto his work laptop and it's taking forever to connect to his work's network. He thinks it's the wireless and so I pull my own personal sonic screwdriver, Socrates, an ipod touch. I show him I'm getting a signal from it. We test out the network ports and those are fine too. It turns out that IT for Graef had done some updates for his laptop.

This leads to later today when I am I fiddling with my EeePC. I want to update to a beta release of Eeebuntu 4. It turns out the ISO file I have is corrupted because I can't install the damn thing off of a flash drive. So, I'm redownloading a copy of it and I will try to install later. So, for now, playing with my desktop and iPod touch will work fine.
